That has been our question. Not sure what to do about whether or not we want to celebrate it, we have just avoided the whole issue up until recently. After trick or treating at his buddy's birthday party last year, Caden is now well aware that Halloween means trick or treating and trick or treating means CANDY! Something he doesn't see a whole lot of. So this year we had to decide...and as you can see we decided in favor of it. The whole issue is complex, but in spite of there being nothing "redeeming" about it, we can redeem it if we try. We love costumes (we have 3 huge boxes!) and despite my best efforts, Caden loves candy like his mom and grandmas. ;) So, we enjoyed it right along with the boys and will atempt every year to show our boys how Jesus is Light and Life during a celebration of death and darkness.
We went to a wonderful carnival at the city park where caden had a blast! Then home for chili and off to trick or treating with Aiden down the street. The folks in our cul-de-sac all gathered in the middle to hang out and pass out treats. It was fun and there were a lot of kids (and adults!) out looking for loot! Caden is in 7th Heaven with a plastic grocery bag FULL of candy (literally!). Oh Boy! He exclaimed on the way home from the festival "Now I'm never gonna run out of candy!" And that was before the 5 million pieces from the neighborhood! Anyway, it has been fun "doing halloween" with the boys. Enjoy the pics!
~Our adorable pilot and chicken! (We're not really into dorky looking kids costumes, but owen's was given to us (free!) and it was warm (not that it was really an issue-the evening was beautiful!) and since he is the cutest thing since caden (biased, we know) we figured "oh well, dorky or not, he'll look cute." Everyone else seemed to think he looked cute too! ;)

You know, I struggle with the same thoughts regarding Halloween. I don't want to glorify something that so deliberately doesn't glorify God and so the choice is to be deliberate in making sure our kids have a right view regarding it. So hard, especially when they are young. You are doing a great job!
Cute costumes! Sounds like you had lots of fun... I'm glad you were able to get plugged into the community so quickly. What a good mommy too, with all those pumpkin crafts and cooking! We have lots more costumes we could pass Owen's way! Hugs to my precious nephews!
